What is “Waterproof” IP Code?

IP Code (Ingress Protection Code), also called Degrees of protection provided by the enclosure. It is a criterion that classifies degrees of protecting electrical products against the intrusion of dust and water.

IP Code is defined in IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), was published in European Union by CENELEC as EN 60529. In 2004, the standard was adopted by the United States.

IP Code is constituted by 2 digits. The first digit indicates the protection level that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts and the ingress of solid foreign objects. In simple terms, the first digit represents the level of dust prevention. The highest level is 6. The second digit indicates the protection level that the enclosure provides against water. The highest level is 8. In summary, IP68 is the highest protection level internationally.

Sometimes one of the 2 digits becomes “X”. X means there is no data available to specify a protection rating with regard to this criterion. When X exists, the code represents another protection level only. For example, IPX7 means it is only for water protection level 7.

In China, the relevant tests are based on GB/T 4208-2017 / IEC 60529-2013 (newest)”Shell Protection Grade (IP code)” standard requirements, the shell protection grade of all kinds of products for qualification evaluation qualitative judgment test. The highest detection level is IP68.  Conventional product testing grade includes IP23, IP44, IP54, IP55, IP65, IP66, IP67, and IP68 grade.

For the majority of outdoor products, IPX7 is absolutely enough. However, ReLeksy aims to manufacture high-quality outdoor products to make people enjoy relaxing lives. We do our best to produce IP68 waterproof phone bags, the highest level to protect your phones against dust and water.
